Registration & composition checker
Two questions in one place: do you need GST registration at all, and if you do, can the composition scheme work for you instead of regular GST?
Do I need GST registration?
Can I opt for composition?
Registration: checked against your state and supply type’s threshold, unless any compulsory-registration condition (Section 24) applies, in which case registration is required regardless of turnover.
Composition: checked against the Section 10(1) (goods/restaurant) or Section 10(2A) (services/mixed) turnover limit for your state, after ruling out the standard disqualifiers (inter-state supply, notified goods, and others).
Frequently asked questions
What is the GST registration threshold?
Generally ₹40 lakh for goods and ₹20 lakh for services, with lower thresholds in a few states. Several activities (like inter-state supply or being liable under reverse charge) require registration regardless of turnover.
What is the composition scheme?
A simplified scheme for small taxpayers: a flat, low rate on turnover instead of regular GST, in exchange for giving up input tax credit, inter-state sales, and the ability to collect GST from customers.
Should I choose composition or regular GST?
It depends on your margins and whether your customers need an input tax credit from you. The rough estimator here compares the two at a basic level; it is not a substitute for working through your actual numbers with a CA.
Can I switch between composition and regular GST later?
Yes, subject to the conditions and timelines in the CGST Rules for opting in or withdrawing from the scheme. This tool does not cover that process.
This tool gives an estimate based on GST law as notified up to the “rules last verified” date shown. It is not legal or tax advice. Due dates and fees are sometimes extended or waived by notification. Confirm with your CA or the GST portal before acting.
